Marten Cup 2008

With Charlotte nearing completion John had the opportunity of crewing on one of the 5 Marten 49's competing for the Marten Cup in Sydney and meeting some of the other owners.

The Deck is on

Well another milestone has been passed with the deck on the new boat. Teak decking and painting now starting. Won't be long now. Looks like OP this colour.

The donk is in. Bit airy but plenty of head room. All progressing well in the Marten shed.

Plumbing has been installed , cable trays to the nav station and flat screen TV, fuel tank, hot water system (yes hot), 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, kitchen, lounge, nav station, gosh racing is tough with none of the luxuries of home!! The keel bulb is enormous.

Electronics have been selected and all is looking well. Looks like we will have the same HF as on TWU.

Bit of a happy smile on the owner, stressed but happy stood next to the future stairs. Check out the head room, even I can stand up without hitting my head.

It's all go

Well the boat is progressing fast now with plumbing starting to be installed, sail plans have been formulated and a specification for the navigation system has been prepared. We are planning to visit Sydney on Monday to inspect and finalise the instrumentation systems and check the progress. The laptop and tablet have been ordered and learning curve on the new navigational software has begun. Stress levels have been measured and reached new highs on the owner, naviguesser and sailmakers fronts. Sort of excited stress on all fronts. Have we done the right thing......... Well behind the scenes much has been happening working on plans for the navigation solution to be installed, sail preparation, planning for race schedules, and training being undertaken not to mention busy winning races on This Way Up. Plans are afoot to inspect Charlotte in the next week or two and check the progress.

"Charlotte" soon to grace the waterways of NSW

Well it's now official. The new Marten will be called "Charlotte". Charlotte will be graced with claret hull with a gold stripe. At this stage work is progressing ahead os schedule but delivery is not likely until February next year.
